LIMA – The COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult for businesses, prompting some to start their own businesses in parallel.
Erin Jones, of Lima, was one of 28 salespeople to set up a table at the New Age Entrepreneurs Business Pop-Up on Sunday at the Bradfield Community Center.
Jones started Bell Rose Sweets LLC less than a year ago, selling a variety of food products – mini cheesecakes, pudding cups, caramel apples, chocolate-covered strawberries – and doing so via Facebook and Instagram.
“With the pandemic, who didn’t want the extra money? Sitting in the house there was nothing we could do, so I said you know what we’re thinking and here we are, ”Jones said.
The event was hosted by entrepreneur Meagan Horton, who has her own internet business, Mega Lash, where she sells false eyelashes.
“I just felt like during the pandemic people had to find different ways to make money, not get their unemployment check, lose their job or whatever and people came together and there ‘did. They are finding ways to make money so that the income continues to flow into their homes, ”said Horton.
Horton praised the other entrepreneurs who took the plunge to become their own bosses.
“A lot of people have found work in their sales. So they believed in their sales, and they took the risk and killed him, ”Horton said.
Some of the Business Pop-Up sellers have progressed to where they have physical stores.
“A lot of them are basically home based because some people like me have a full time job and some have a full time job so it’s kind of like online social media. , word of mouth, things like that, ”Horton said.
Of the 28 sellers, some were only 10 years old.
Amaya Hopson started her Amaya Rose Collection business to help others, selling lip gloss, scrunchies, nail polish and bows.
“I sell my stuff because I want to help people when things are too expensive. they could come find me in my pop-up stores, where they can buy and buy stuff, ”Hopson said.
Horton has some tips for those considering starting their own business.
“Do it – because at any time your job can shut you down or you don’t know what your job has in store for you. So take this risk on yourself. Always bet on yourself, ”said Horton.
