NEW YORK CENTER – Now on Fayetteville-Manlius football team may have a clear path towards hosting a Section III Class A playoff game later this month.

All it takes is defeating the Hornets Christian Brothers Academy in its October 22 regular season finale, as both teams now have a loss in the books at the expense of Indian River.

FM, no. 23 in last week’s State Class A ranking, well received East of Syracuse Minoa at Hornet Stadium last Friday night and was unleashed throughout a decisive first half to manage the Spartans 49-7.

After jumping 21-0 over West Genesee the week before, the Hornets had plenty of energy again at the start with two scoring drives in the first quarter, each time Ethan Powell scoring after long runs from TJ Conley.

It continued into the second period, with FM twice finding the end zone to stretch its lead to 28-0 while its defense, led by Jacob Dobricki (seven tackles), Denim Hall (five tackles, one interception) and Jacob Poruczek (four tackles) stifled all ESM opportunities.

Conley didn’t enter the end zone until the third quarter, but for the night he amassed 267 yards on just 13 carries.

Chris Hoalcraft ran for 111 yards on 13 carries to go with his seven assists in 10 for 89 yards. Alex DuPuy added three long carries for 97 yards.

This followed last Thursday’s showdown between CBA and Indian River, and while the brothers had the no. 12 classification of the state, it was the no. Ranked 19th Warriors who, with their dominant ground play, came out on top by a 51-30 margin.

All night long, IR running back Rowan Marsell burned the CBA defense, carrying the ball 25 times and racking up 296 yards while scoring four touchdowns as Gabe Lynch added 93 yards on 18 carries.

Marsell scored for the first time on a three-yard rush in the first quarter, followed by Ramsey Burnard’s 32-yard field goal. Then a 70-yard sprint to the end zone in the second period responded to Jordan Rae’s 44-yard pass to Syair Torrence that put the Brothers on the board.

Rae and Torrence connected again on a 21-yard touchdown pass just before halftime, but CBA was still trailing 27-14 and would be sidelined in the third quarter, Marsell converting at nine yards and the Warriors adding security.

Fighting to the end, the Brothers watched Rae throw a third touchdown pass, 15 yards from Dan Anderson, as Jamier Handford scored on a two-yard rush.

Before facing each other, CBA will first host West Genesee on Friday at Alibrandi Stadium, while FM will travel to Holland Stadium to take on Auburn.

In eight-a-side football Bishop Grimes took a 36-24 loss to New York Mills, the Cobras dropping to 2-3 overall as the Marauders improved to 4-1.
