Florida reports record 26,203 new COVID-19 cases

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – Florida reported an additional 26,203 cases of COVID-19 to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday, the highest number attributed to a single day according to these CDC measurements.

The state now has up to 3,130,144 cases and 42,731 deaths related to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Nine other deaths have been reported as part of the latest data.

The 7-day moving average of new cases per day has increased to 21,604.

The 7-day moving average for the United States is 142,029 new cases per day, which means Florida accounts for 15%.

The latest data comes from figures sent to the CDC by the Florida Department of Health. The state only publicly releases a full COVID-19 report once a week on Friday.

Last Friday’s report showed the statewide positivity rate for new cases reached 19.8%, a ninth consecutive week of increases in this measure.

Department of Health and Human Services measurements showed Florida had 17,164 inpatient beds filled with COVID-19 patients, most of them nationwide. More than 94% of the state’s intensive care beds are in use, according to the HHS, and 86% of inpatient beds are in use.
