Google accused of spying by various consumer associations

It all started from the Norwegian consumer badociation that conducted an investigation establishing that Google "uses misleading design and information to encourage people to be geolocated permanently". For the badociation, these monitoring data are not justifiable and have no legal basis and it states that "the data is recovered through techniques related to manipulation".

Echoing this study, seven European badociations, led by the Dutch badociation Consumentenbond, seized their respective regulators to confront Google with the RGPD.

For badociations, this permanent geolocation allows to learn a lot about users. We can thus discover their habits, guess their social level according to neighborhoods or signs frequented, their religion, or even their badual orientation and many other elements allowing to draw a fairly faithful portrait-robot.

The badociations therefore wish to put an end to this unjustified and illegal spinning of the users. For Google, the main argument remains the same: geolocation data above all allow to offer the best possible user experience and the option is also disabled by default (until an application specifies to the user that its activation is "required").
