The announcement comes from Margaret Atwood herself. The author of The Handmaid's Tale, 79, has just announced that she is writing the sequel to the original 1985 novel. Titled The Testaments, the release is scheduled for September 2019 across the Atlantic.

The world of Margaret Atwood, a totalitarian world

The Handmaid's Tale is set in a fictional version of New England. The story tells how a totalitarian state, Gilead, overthrows the US government and installs a new regime. Women are deprived of their basic rights. The book was subsequently adapted in series on the Hulu cable channel and on Orange cinema series.

The Testaments will tell a plot that takes place 15 years after the events of the first book. However, the mystery remains intact. We know that the book will focus on three female characters but we do not know if old characters could make their appearance again.
