PSA presented Free2Move, its car-sharing service, in the presence of Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris. 550 vehicles of the brand will be available via the dedicated application, from Monday, December 3.
To forget about Autolib 'is the mission of Free2Move. Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo and the Peugeot-Citroën brand presented the group's car-sharing service on 29 November. Already present in 12 countries, the service will be available in the capital from Monday, December 3, 2018. 550 electric cars of the brand will be available in free-floating, that is to say, without the need to attach to a terminal, and bookable via a dedicated application.
" The individual thermal car is over, at least for a metropolis like Paris "Begins Anne Hidalgo at the podium. The mayor of Paris remains determined to push back diesel and gasoline cars, sources of noise and environmental pollution, out of his city. " Only 37% of Parisian households have a personal vehicle ", She tempers, anticipating the reactions.
Bouncing after the failure of Autolib '
The failure of Autolib did not affect the will of Mrs. Hidalgo, who now opens the city to other carsharing services. " Free2Move will occupy the place that previously took the routes in Autolib ' "Develops the mayor. She explains the failure of Autolib 'by its model " overtaken by the digital. " The car reservation was done at the terminal, where the new services allow to do it via a mobile application.
Renault arrived timidly in the capital at the end of September, with a fleet of 120 electric vehicles attached to its service Moov'in. This time, it is Peugeot who arrives, with a larger fleet of 550 vehicles, half of Renault iOn, and half of Citroën C-Zero. Free2Move hopes to increase this figure by 2019 if its service meets the expected success.
The PSA brand is not at its first attempt. Free2Move started car sharing in Madrid in 2016, and now offers 65,000 vehicles in 12 countries, including China and the United States.
How to take a Free2Move car?
Without a minimum duration, the rental of a car is billed at € 0.39 / minute (an hourly price identical to the application of Renault). But if you plan to use it regularly, Free2Move provides a subscription to € 9.90 / month, which lowers the cost of the rental minute to € 0.32 / minute. The subscription, without commitment, becomes profitable from a little less than two hours and a half of driving.
To rent a car, we go back to the same model as for the electric scooters in free-floating like Lime or Bird.
- Download the Free2Move Automobile app, available on the Apple Store and the Play Store from December 3rd. The service should eventually join the Free2Move application, which includes the services of several providers, but this is not the case at the moment.
- Book the car that interests you on the map. The application displays the address where the car is parked, the distance between you and the car, and the estimated range in kilometers. You then have 15 minutes to unlock it.
- When you arrive nearby, click on the "unlock" command on your smartphone to access the interior of the car. The vehicle key is in the glove box.
- Once arrived at your destination, you can park your car for free on any authorized place in Paris.
In terms of facilities, the City of Paris is in the process of rehabilitating its 1,500 Autolib 'park. These seats will be available to Free2Move users, but if they choose these, they will have to connect the car to the charging station after use.
Anne Hidalgo has already announced that other carsharing operators will arrive in 2019. The city wants to create a competitive market for mobility as a service, and intends to prevent any monopoly.
