Deadly accident in Dordogne: the driver was drunk

Friday, January 18, at 9:30 pm, a young man of 19 years, who was riding a scooter on the departmental road 707, was struck in Nantheuil, near Thiviers, by a van. He was driven by a 39-year-old man. The two people, from Dussac, were driving on the same road.

Three firefighting vehicles and the Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service (Smur) in Périgueux intervened on site. They could not do anything to save this young man, already dead on their arrival.

During the collision, the driver of the van did not stop. He went back home. Around 10 pm, he telephoned Philippe Rousseau, the mayor of Dussac: "He seemed confused. He did not know what had happened and said he did not see anything in the dark. He thought he had stamped a deer. This is terrible news. The whole village is bereaved. We discuss it between ourselves to comfort each other. "

Charged

Just after this call, he warned the firefighters of the accident. A motorist had already warned them. Around midnight, the driver was taken into custody in Thiviers. He was drunk and admitted to having stopped at a bar and have drunk before driving. When he returned home, he continued to drink alcohol.

On the morning of Sunday 20 January, he was referred to the Périgueux public prosecutor and indicted for manslaughter, manifest state of drunkenness, hit and run and non-badistance to person in danger. He is now under judicial control.
