Ford unveils new Focus ST with 280 hp

Ford will not be present at the Geneva Motor Show (March 7-17), but that does not prevent it from revealing new products. Witness this Focus ST, which debuted 10 months after the presentation of the fourth generation of the compact.

The race for power continues, as the car adopts the 2.3 Ecoboost turbo with 280 hp, 30 hp more than the old Focus ST (which had a 2.0). The torque peaks at 420 Nm between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. The brand announces a 0 to 100 km / h achieved in less than six seconds.

The engine is coupled in series with a 6-speed manual transmission, equipped with "rev-machine" technology (inaugurated by the Mustang) that allows faster downshifts. An 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters will be available as an option.

Ford remains faithful to the dual gasoline / diesel offer. The new ST will be available with a diesel fueled engine, the 2.0 Ecoblue 190 hp, with a maximum torque of 400 Nm (which already 360 Nm from 1500 rpm).

The Focus ST remains a traction. For the first time, it can accommodate a limited electronically controlled mechanical slip differential, which is faster and more accurate than a traditional system. The car also receives a driving mode selector, with four settings: Normal, Low grip, Sport and, for models equipped with the Performance Pack, Track. The device acts on the differential, the active suspensions, the electric steering, the cartography of the acceleration or the pbadage of the reports on the car box. The Launch Control is reserved for the Ecoboost with manual gearbox. The direction is promised very direct, with only two rounds of thrust to stop.

Side look, we find the body kit of the ST Line, with some small changes. At the rear, there are two exhaust outlets, with a cannula on each side. The diffuser incorporates a body color element. The ST receives brand new wheels, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The color chart incorporates two specific shades: Blue Ford Performance and Orange Fury. On board is an aluminum crankset and RS-badged Recaro seats.

The equipment will be rich, with smart cruise control series, centering aid in the lane, head-up display or multimedia system SYNC 3. The ST will be available in 5 doors and break, from summer 2019.
