Chrome: a new extension to protect you from questionable websites

Google offers two new features on Chrome to protect you against questionable websites. The first is directly integrated in Chrome 75 and the second is accessible via an extension. With these new anti-phishing features, Google wants to help you avoid stealing your bank details, pbadwords and other sensitive data.

Internet users are exposed to phising attacks all the time and it is easy enough to fall into the trap. Google Chrome now offers features to help you avoid the pitfalls.

Hackers often use a web address close to that of the service they are trying to imitate in order to easily trap users. For example, it is very easy to make a user believe that he is on Google while the address is actually Go0gle.com with a 0 (zero) instead of the letter "o". From Chrome 75, Google alerts you when you try to go to a potentially misleading address.

" This new warning works by comparing the URL of the page you are currently on to the URLs of recently visited pages. If the URL looks similar and it may be confusing or fooling you, we will show you a warning that will help you find the security ", Reads the note posted on the blog of Chromium.

At the same time, Google has released a new extension on the Chrome Web Store, soberly named Suspicious Site Reporter. This extension has a dual purpose. On the one hand, it allows you to report malicious sites that you have identified as such after a phishing attempt. The page is added after badysis to the big Google database that lists the dangerous sites of the web.

Thanks to this extension, a flag to the right of the Google Chrome address bar tells you if you are on a suspicious page. A green color means that no problem is to report, if it is colored Orange, click on the flag to read the identified problems.

With these two features now available on Chrome, Google wants to help you avoid the pitfalls that are unfortunately very common on the web and lead to the theft of sensitive data.
