For the government, the increase in electricity falls badly. For more than 25 million households, it could be between 4 and 7%. In 2014, Ségolène Royal, then Minister in charge of Energy, had avoided the increase. It had limited the rise in the regulated tariff to protect purchasing power.
But in 2016, the Council of State cancels its decision. Households still had to pay this increase two years later. The only solution is to force EDF to sell more cheaper electricity to its competitors, to pull tariffs down. But on the side of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, we recognize that we should expect a rise in prices in 2019, while recalling that the price of electricity in France remains lower than the European average.
