Bosh officially unveils its next-generation electric bike engines

Bosch has been a leader in the market for electric motors and batteries used on bicycles for several years, without any significant progress being made. The German multi-hat company intends to change the situation with the release of a new generation of engines and batteries.

Expected arrival for 2020

The engines conventional trademarks are divided into two categories: small quiet motors on one side, and on the other side versions bigger, but also more powerful. The natural evolution expected by users was therefore miniaturize the powerful engines, and that's what will propose Bosch for its next draft, which should develop a power of 65 Nm (Newton / meter). In comparison, the previous engine line, of similar size, developed 40 Nm.

Two variations will therefore appear: the Bosh Performance Line CX and the Bosh Performance Line Speed. Both are perfectly identical from the outside, but the version Line Speed will allow superior performance, up to 45 km / h.

Bosh also unveiled a new line of engines adapted to bicycles « cargo These gigantic bicycles with a ferry to the ground to transport bulky objects, even people who are not cold to the eyes. This model Cargo Line Speed will also be able to reach 45 km / h.

New batteries, new screen

The battery of the brand will also be updated. These Bosch's Powertube will have a capacity of 625Wh, against 500Wh for the previous model. In addition, these equipment is relatively expensive, Bosch will also offer a battery less powerful but also more affordable, with a capacity of only 400 Wh.

Among the updates, theKiox screen, which provides the speed information or the state of charge of the battery, should also be able to communicate wirelessly with Fox shock absorbers dedicated, in order to adjust the cushioning. This option was not proposed during the demonstrations.

This new version of Kiox will also serve aslock, disabling the engine when it is not engaged on the bike. Nevertheless, this service will not be free, and even if these bikes are heavier than conventional bikes, nothing like a good old lock.
