Canadian study identifies several warning signs of the disease

Chronic pain, depression, migraines, disturbed sleep are all signs that would be symptomatic of the arrival of multiple sclerosis. A study, published on July 6 in the Multiple Sclerosis Journal has revealed the existence of precursor disorders in some people with this disease.

During the five years before the appearance of the first signs In multiple sclerosis clinics, future patients are up to four times more likely to suffer from sleep disorders. They are twice as likely to experience depression, anxiety or mood disorders. Fibromyalgia is three times more common in these patients.

Pushing further research

The Canadian researchers behind the study studied the medical records of 14,000 people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. plaques between 1984 and 2014. The results were compared to the data of 67,000 healthy people.

"The existence of warning signs is well established for Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, but there are has had few studies regarding multiple sclerosis, "says Helen Tremlett, lead author of the study.
