Cervical cancer: alarming numbers in Morocco

In just six years, the number of deaths from cervical cancer has more than doubled in Morocco. It has increased from 1,076 in 2012 to 2,465 deaths in 2018, according to the latest data from International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), published on GLOBOCAN 2018. As for the number of cases of cervical cancer, it has risen sharply, going from from 2,258 new cases per year in 2012 to 3,388 in 2018.

Morocco has the highest rate of cervical cancer in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This disease remains the second leading cause of cancer death in women in the Kingdom.
