And if cleaning was as dangerous as smoking? This is what a Norwegian study, published in the journal suggests in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
The results indicate that the use of certain household products is very harmful to the lungs. Regular use of maintenance sprays is equivalent to smoking 20 cigarettes (one pack) per day over a period of 10 to 20 years.
No effect on men
Thus, "forced expiratory volume per second" would decrease by 3.9 ml per year for housekeepers and 3.6 ml per year for housekeepers.
According to the researchers, the decrease in lung capacity would result from irritation caused by most of these household sprays. On the contrary, no effect has been demonstrated in men.
