No more admissions since Wednesday
This closure has been anticipated. Since Wednesday, no more admissions are recorded. "The goal is that starting this Saturday noon, there will be no more young patients hospitalized in the service. Some have since returned to their homes. Others, surgical cases, have been transferred to surgery, where a specific bed is dedicated to them. They are cared for by pediatric staff.
Maternity works normally
During this period scheduled consultations will continue to be provided. Pediatric vital emergencies will also be taken care of in the adult emergency department. "They will then be directed to specific institutions.
The other patients are invited to go to the pediatric emergencies of the Marie-Madeleine Hospital of Forbach until the reopening of the service. On the other hand, the closure does not concern normally functioning maternity.
Recruitment open
Like several hospitals in France, the establishment has serious problems in recruiting doctors, highlighted at the beginning of the year by the director Jean- Claude Kneib. In one year, several departures were recorded. "Our teams are weakened, he confided. Their workload and responsibility are increasing. These difficulties were accentuated in pediatrics by an absence for illness.
Of the four pediatric posts, three are occupied. "The recruitment is open, says Guillaume Flück. We are hopeful that the last position will be filled.
