Jonathann Daval, suspected of the murder of his wife Alexia, is questioned this Thursday by the examining magistrate of the court of Besançon in charge of the case, against a backdrop of growing tensions with his in-laws, a civil party. This will be his first interrogation since June 27, when he had seen his confession and accused his brother-in-law, Gregory Gay, to be the murderer of Alexia.

Jonathann Daval, 34, is to be interrogated from 10 am, in the presence of his lawyers, at the tribunal de grande instance of Besançon, coming from the jail of Dijon where he has been imprisoned since his indictment in January for "Murder on spouse". On 7 December, he will return to Besançon for two separate confrontations, with Alexia's sister and her husband, Stéphanie and Grégory Gay, then with the parents of the victim, Isabelle and Jean-Pierre Fouillot. All constituted themselves civil parties; they had demanded these confrontations after being blamed by Jonathann Daval.

Multiple versions and shadows

For a year, twists and shadows feed the chronicle of what could have been the tragically common story of a woman killed by her spouse, as 130 others in France last year. It all starts on October 28, 2017 when Jonathann Daval reports to the gendarmerie of Gray-la-Ville (Haute-Saône) the "disappearance" of his wife, a 29-year-old bank employee who, he says, has not returned of his jogging.

From whites to whitewash, from a race in memory of Alexia to the burial of the young woman – whose body will be found two days later in a forest, not far from the marital home – the man displays his sentence tears in his eyes and trembling voice.

At the end of January, a first turnaround occurs: Jonathann Daval is arrested in the couple's house and indicted in the face of "overwhelming elements" discovered during the investigation, such as the use of his car in the middle of the night and a sheet belonging to to the couple to wrap the body. At the end of his detention, the young computer scientist admits to strangling his wife during a dispute at their home after a dinner at his in-laws, speaking of an "accident".

In late June, it is also a dispute and an angry attack of Alexia that Jonathann Daval evokes before the examining magistrate, at the price of a dramatic turnaround: according to this new version, his brother-in-law, Grégory Gay, would have strangled Alexia during dinner. All would then have concluded "a secret pact" to conceal the facts.

There are still many gray areas around the murder of Alexia: who moved her body? Did an aerosol can found in the couple burn the body? Who was in Jonathann's car after dinner at his parents-in-law's house?
