By conducting experiments on rodents, US researchers have discovered that green tea would be able to fight not only against obesity, but also against diabetes. At the same time, they indicate that dietary supplements with green tea extract would not have the same effect as the drink.

American scientists are finding that green tea has some virtues to fight against obesity and reduce the amount of inflammatory markers. They published the results of their research on the site MedicalXpress.

Scientists tested 2% green tea extract on rodents. One group of mice ate only fatty foods for a week, while the other group had a regular, balanced diet. In addition, each of these groups was split into two, one part receiving green tea extract and the other not. Then, after a week, the researchers looked at the condition of the rodents, their weight, the volume of their adipose tissue, their resistance to insulin, among other factors.

They found that green tea consumption was beneficial for animals that followed the very fat diet because they grew 20% less and developed lower insulin resistance compared to rodents. who did not receive the extract.

In addition, green tea has reduced the penetration of endotoxins, toxins found in the outer membrane of certain bacteria, into the blood of animals.

The doses used in the experiments are equivalent to ten cups of green tea. Also, the scientists explain that dietary supplements with green tea extract would not be a good substitute and would not have the same effect. On the other hand, researchers warn that it is still too early to apply the results of this research to humans because they still require additional badysis.
