Augmented reality, unlike the VR, seems inaccessible to the players, and yet, Microsoft sells since 2016 devkits helmets HoloLens at $ 3,000. And last year, the builder has signed a contract worth $ 479 million with theUS Army to develop an "integrated visual augmentation system" (Integrated Visual Augmentation System, or IVAS) for soldiers on the ground.

As reported Bloomberg, the US military wants with this new technology, based on the HoloLens, "Increase lethality by improving the ability to detect, make decisions and engage before the enemy". Yes, it's a weapon of war, theUS Army do not hide it, but this is clearly not to the liking of the employees of Microsoft. Several of these grouped under the banner Microsoft Workers 4 Good and published an open letter to Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoftentitled "HoloLens for good, not war". according to The Guardian, there are already 50 to have co-signed this letter, whose message is clear. Employees want pure and simple stopping the search for technologies for war, stressing that they "have not signed to develop weapons".

The HoloLens application in the IVAS system is designed to help kill people. It will be deployed on the battlefield and will work by transforming the war into a simulated "video game", further removing soldiers from the dark stakes of war and the reality of bloodshed.

Microsoft reacted to this controversy, but apparently does not intend to stop the development of this augmented reality technology for'US Army. A spokesman for the firm simply said "always appreciate the comments of employees," recalling that Microsoft already offers "several ways to make their voices heard" within the company.
