in Africa, "Cassava Ebola" threatens

[ad_1]

It is a disease that destroys cbadava plants, rendering them unfit for consumption. The brown streak of cbadava, first identified in Tanzania in 1936, threatens to reach the whole continent of West Africa. The cbadava tuber is a staple food for about 250 million Africans.

In partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, seven African countries (Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso , Democratic Republic of the Congo) have just launched the program Wave ( West African Virus Epidemiology ), to fight against this scourge by developing a "regional approach", explains AFP.

Stop the epidemic and Improving Yields

The proposed measures combine the uprooting of infested plants, the ban on travel with cbadava cuttings, and financial support for research to "fight disease and improve productivity"

Brown cbadava streak is transmitted via white flies, whose population has exploded in recent years due to rising temperatures on the African continent. Already present in Central Africa (Angola, Zambia, DRC) and East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda …), the virus, called the "Cbadava Ebola", is starting to spread to the West and to the south.
