Vegans are never short of ideas when it comes to expressing their demands, even if taking some surprising steps.
In Issigeac, a medieval village in Dordogne, the vegan badociation Peta asked the mayor to rename the rue de la Saucisse: "At first, I really believed in the gag, but after checking, I realized that it was an official step (…) They are strongly opposed to this name and they even advise us to rename it Rue Soy-cisse, in reference to soy in English. It's anything and it's out of the question for me to do it " entrusts the edile, Jean-Claude Castagner to Franceinfo.
However, on the side of Peta, an adjustment seemed necessary as to their approach. For them, it was above all a question of talking about their fight, the animal cause: "Let it be clear, this is not a criticism that is made to the mayor of Issigeac. This is not a request to take at first degree. It's a more playful way of mediatizing what is important to us. "

Thus, renaming the street is not an end in itself, but the fact that it is spoken of is already a great success for them: "We want villagers to think about the cruelty of making a sausage".
However, it seems that the rue de la Saucisse does not refer to the food, nor to the animal, but to a female figure of the village, as entrusted Elma Laporte Parisian, who is the only inhabitant of this street during the year: "These people are completely irrelevant. Sausage has nothing to do with pork. It is the nickname that the villagers gave to one of theirs at the beginning of the 20th century because it was vaulted. Her name was Suzanne Tessier and the elders say that she loved this nickname, so why this step today? ".
Indeed, suddenly, the approach of the vegan badociation seems to be next to the plate. This is not the first time that Peta attempts actions in municipalities to change the name of cities, as in Lille where she wanted to rename the rue du Ham in "rue des hams". And it will certainly not be the last time since Peta ensures that other couriers will leave soon.
