LaREM MP pleads for "a break" on the rise in fuel taxes on 1 January

The majority MP Patrick Vignal (LaREM) pleaded on Wednesday for "a pause" before the increase in fuel taxes scheduled for January 1, a major claim of "yellow vests" and opponents of the government.

"We must put a pause on the rise in fuels in January, fuels and gas," said Mr. Vignal on BFMTV.

"Because I do not want to see 90-year-old retirees coming on the roundabouts," said the Herault MP, a former PS deputy.

"I think there is a silent majority that is beginning to understand," added Mr. Vignal, while the executive maintained its course this week, with a speech by Emmanuel Macron and a media intervention by Edouard Philippe .

In the majority, the president of the Assembly's Social Affairs Committee, Brigitte Bourguignon, has already called for a "one-quarter moratorium" on fuel tax increases.

On the right, for the president of the Senate Gérard Larcher (The Republicans), the executive has "only one solution": "accept the moratorium on energy taxes".
