A 17-year-old girl died on Friday, July 6, from neurological complications related to measles. A new death that reminds the importance of vaccination, to protect vulnerable people.

This Friday, July 6, the Regional Health Agency of New Aquitaine reported that a 17-year-old girl had died of neurological complications after contracting measles
This is the third death in France since the beginning of the year, after the death of a 32-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man. [19659005] These three patients were immunocompromised, that is to say that their immune system was weakened.
The young teenager who died on July 6 had thus not been vaccinated against measles since of this weakened immune system. To be protected, it had to rely on the others, on the population able to vaccinate itself.
Because the vaccination is not only to protect oneself. By getting vaccinated, it is possible to help eradicate infectious and highly transmissible diseases, such as measles or rubella. To eliminate these diseases, vaccination coverage must exceed 95% of those vaccinated. " I really ask people who are not vaccinated or who have not had their children vaccinated to catch up today because, particularly in certain regions of France, the coverage is around 70%, c is the case in the Southwest. It is totally insufficient to prevent an epidemic to emerge ", recalled Agnès Buzyn, Minister of Health, last February.
Currently, the health authorities consider that the vast majority of French born before 1980 had measles, and so developed immunity against this highly contagious disease. As the MMR vaccine was introduced in France in 1983, the health authorities call people born after 1980 to check in their health record that they have received both doses of MMR vaccine, and to be vaccinated if this is not the case.
According to the figures communicated by the ARS of New Aquitaine, the most affected region of France, 1,096 cases of measles have been confirmed since November 6 (2,567 cases in France), with 1 in 4 cases requiring hospitalization and 12 people transferred to intensive care
