An increase over last year. The automatic revaluation of the Smic, which will be announced on December 19, will be "significant", given inflation, said
the Minister of Labor, Muriel Pénicaud, continuing to dismiss any "help".

Every year, the minimum growth rate (Smic) benefits from a mechanical increase on January 1st, calculated according to two criteria:
the inflation observed for the 20% of households with the lowest incomes and half of the gain in purchasing power of the basic hourly wage worker and employee (SHBOE). "Given the trends on inflation, it will be an increase that will be higher than last year," said the minister at the microphone of Franceinfo

No extra help from the government

"There will be a revaluation that will be significant," she said. Thanks to inflation, it should be around 2%, according to AFP calculations. As of January 1, the minimum growth wage had been adjusted up from 1.24% to 9.88 euros gross per hour (or 7.82 euros net after deduction of employee contributions). The monthly minimum wage is 1,498.47 euros (1,184.93 euros net).

The government will announce the revaluation "on December 19, after consulting the social partners on the 15th, and we will have the calculation figures on the 13th," detailed Muriel Pénicaud.

Praising the current system of automatic revaluation, she called the idea of an extra boost from the government's "fact of the prince". The minister also recalled that the 1.6 million smicards have benefited from a monthly increase thanks to the cuts in unemployment insurance and sickness insurance contributions. "From November 2017 to November 2018, it is 35 euros more per month" but it is an increase that is "not perceived" because of inflation, she acknowledged.
