It was an open secret, it's now official: Robbie Keane is retiring.
Appointed badistant coach to the Irish team alongside Mick McCarthy, Robbie Keane took the opportunity to announce his sporting retirement. Two years after announcing his international retirement, the one still working on the side of Atletico Kolkata, in D1 Indian, hangs up the crampons after having taken part in more than 700 professional games.
Revealed on the side of Wolverhampton in the late 1990s, Robert David Keane, aka Robbie Keane, had become a flagship player in Tottenham in the 2000s, playing more than 300 games with Londoners between 2002 and 2011 (with a freelance Liverpool in 2008-2009). The Irishman had progressively moved away from the high level, exporting his MLS skills to Los Angeles Galaxy (2011-2016) before landing in India for a quiet end to his career. Legendary player in the club selection, he has played in 146 games, scoring a whopping 68 goals.
Robbie Keane will have, with Mick McCarthy, the heavy burden of driving Ireland to Euro 2020.
