Réunion is currently experiencing an active and uninterrupted flow of dengue fever with 6,649 confirmed cases since the beginning of the year. Last week 3 new cases were confirmed. The number of cases has stabilized in recent weeks but a major epidemic wave is feared with the arrival of the austral summer.
From October 22nd to 28th, 3 cases of dengue fever were confirmed in Réunion: 1 case at La Saline, 1 at the Saint-Louis River and another at Saint-Louis.
In total since the beginning of the year 2018, we record:
- 144 hospitalizations for dengue fever
- 456 emergency room visits
- 5 deaths, of which 3 were considered, after investigation, as directly related to dengue fever
- 24,000 consultations for symptoms suggestive of dengue.
The Prefecture and the ARS Indian Ocean recall the importance of intensifying the collective efforts, in terms of mobilization and prevention to fight against the mosquito vector of the disease.
Instructions to avoid the proliferation of mosquitoes:
– Remove stagnant water
– Get rid of waste
– Use repellents
– Consult a doctor in case of symptoms
