In concrete terms, this plan provides for increased mobilization and prevention against mosquitoes. Repellents will be distributed to particularly vulnerable people

Communication actions will also be carried out with doctors, laboratories and the public. More contracts badisted "Pathways job competence" (PEC), funded from 80 to 90% by the State, will be allocated to badociations specializing in the cleaning of public space. Level 4 of the Orsec Plan also provides for the activation of the Adapted Military Service (ADR) Regiment in support of combat actions.

Dengue continues to gain ground on island while the austral winter, a normally unsuitable season
mosquitoes arrived in June. 5,970 cases of confirmed dengue fever were identified and 124 patients had to be hospitalized since the beginning of the year. Figures that would yet fall short of reality.

Risk of an "epidemic explosion"

"Doctors receive in consultation many patients with symptoms of dengue," says Luce Menudier, Epidemiologist for Public Health La France. "We are more than 18,000 consultations for dengue."

The main risk is therefore an "epidemic explosion during the summer," says Marie-Amelie Vauthier Bardinet, cabinet director of the Prefect of Reunion. "The idea is to take advantage of the cold season to eradicate the virus."
