The cost of the vaccine against
flu will almost double in 2018 compared to the previous year, reports
France info this friday. The campaign will cost 63 million euros to the
Health insurance, against 35 million in 2017.

Five euros increase

The vaccine was proposed at 6.20 euros in 2017. Now, the price is set at 11.20, almost five euros increase. The treatment primarily concerns people over 65 years of age, pregnant women, obese people and those close to infants at risk of influenza.

Twelve million French people make up this population at risk and among them, six million were vaccinated free of charge last year. A figure that should remain stable in 2018.

A new strain

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended "tetravalent" protection, explains Science and Future. The 2018 vaccine therefore contains four different strains, which was not the case in 2017. The addition of a second strain of type B, in addition to the two strains A present initially, increases the costs of production.

The national seasonal flu vaccination campaign began on October 6, 2018 and will continue until January 31, 2019.
