The Walking Dead Season 9: But who are the Whisperers, these humans disguised as zombies? We explain to you (SPOILERS)

First of all, watch out for comic book spoilers and episode 8 in what follows. Season 8 episode 8 of The Walking Dead officially introduces the Whisperers, the iconic villains of comics who are already behind the death of an important character. And if Jesus and the others were as shocked as surprised to see a zombie avoid an attack and stab, they should not have been the only ones. The new enemies of Michonne, Daryl, and others are formidable, but we already know a little who they will be dealing with.

The Whisperers, or Whisperers in English, are led by Alpha. Bloodthirsty and brutal leader, she is played by Samantha Morton and it is Cbadady McClincy who plays her daughter Lydia. The third important character of this new band is Beta, the second of Alpha with impressive build. It will be played by Ryan Hurst and we have already had a preview in the promo video of episode 9 of season 9 of The Walking Dead. As we have seen in the final mid-season, the particularity of the Whisperers is that they disguise themselves as zombies to blend into the hordes and move quietly.

By whispering, the group sows terror and misunderstanding in its path and has especially a major advantage during attacks: nobody is suspicious of them. We already know that the clashes promise to be tense in the next episodes, especially since in the comics, the Whisperers have a quite particular habit: to plant the heads of their victims on spears. If the series follows the comics, those of Rosita and Ezekiel could be found by the end of the season, although the death of Jesus shows that once again, the series is ready to depart from the original source.

Finally side intrigues, there will not be a simple war with the whisperers. We also know that a first contact will soon take place since Michonne should capture Lydia in episode 9. She will seek to exchange the daughter of Alpha against Luke and Alden, who could be removed by the whisperers as suggested by the promo video of the sequel. Moreover in the comics, Carl falls in love with Lydia. But the young man being dead in the series, one wonders to whom will be attributed his plot.
