They do not want to relive the day of last Saturday. The anxiety is palpable among the traders of the Champs-Elysees to three days of a new event planned by the yellow vests on the famous avenue. According to the Comité des Champs-Elysées last Saturday, two-thirds of the businesses were affected by degradations committed by thugs on the sidelines of the event. Some shops also had to lower the curtain for safety.
"Last Saturday we had an operating loss of 50,000 euros, plus damages of 50,000 euros also, so an envelope of 100,000 euros and a missed day for our traders Avenue des Champs-Elysees, our employees who have not been able to work ", summarizes Lionel Guglieri, director of the restaurant L'Alsace.
Faced with this record, the determination of the yellow vests to return to the Champs-Elysees this Saturday is fearing the worst to this trader.
"There are fears of worse overflows than last Saturday. Here the breakers will have time to prepare, it will not be something sudden," he said.
"That the prefecture, that the army secures us"
After this weekend of violence, traders of the avenue have criticized the authorities for not having anticipated enough, not calling traders to tidy up their terraces. Construction equipment and equipment had also been left behind, allowing demonstrators to set up barricades. This time, traders want measurements.
"For next Saturday, we expect that the prefecture, that the army secures us, that we are secure, that we are not delivered to the hands of the thugs and that the Champs-Elysees are not a battlefield", claims Lionel Guglieri.
Friday, a meeting is scheduled with the police headquarters and traders on the Champs-Elysees to prepare this new day of mobilization.
