The first day of testing Pirelli was completed this Tuesday in Abu Dhabi with the best time achieved by Sebastian Vettel. The ten teams on the board have been able to discover the future 2019 erasers of the Italian manufacturer, but also conduct comparison tests with the 2018 envelopes according to their wishes. It is forbidden for them to test new parts for next year.

This Tuesday allowed several drivers to discover their new team, starting with Kimi Räikkönen at Sauber. The Finn has taken the wheel of a single-seater from the Swiss team, the C37, for the first time since his inaugural season in Formula 1, in 2001.

The 2007 World Champion was not the only one in this case, since Robert Kubica and George Russell took turns in the tub of Williams, Lando Norris drove for McLaren, while Lance Stroll took his first steps in pink at Racing Point Force India. The Canadian must still be officially titularized by the team bought last summer by his father, a formality that is long overdue.

The morning had been marked by the best time of Valtteri Bottas with the Mercedes W09, as well as two interruptions to the red flag: the first following a technical problem on the Haas entrusted to Pietro Fittipaldi, the second after a short run off Sebastian Vettel at the first corner, which required repairs at the level of the protective barriers.

The same Vettel was the fastest time of the day with a time of 1'36 "812. Enough to beat Valtteri Bottas, second with his mark of the morning, and the Force India by Lance Stroll followed by Verstappen, Pérez , Norris, Hulkenberg, Fittipaldi, Kubica, Russell, Raikkonen and Gelael.

For Räikkönen, the day ended earlier than expected after a runway crash following a technical problem. The Finn has still completed 102 laps, while the driving time has been extended by a quarter of an hour to compensate for interruptions.

Wednesday, the second and final day of testing will be held in similar conditions in Yas Marina, and will allow the appearance of other new heads in the stables. The following are expected: Charles Leclerc at Ferrari, Pierre Gasly at Red Bull or Carlos Sainz at McLaren.
