To evoke the mission of Thor in Avengers 4, I propose to dive into some theories. Be careful, however, if you prefer not to know the film in advance, it is probably better to go your way, knowing that you must also be up to date on Marvel films to avoid spoilers.
It is all the more legitimate to wonder about Thor's role in Avengers 4 when we remember its importance throughoutInfinity War.
Thor, learn to aim!
Thor was not the most time-consuming character on the screen after Thanos (this was the case with Gamora and Tony Stark), however, his quest for a weapon to defeat the mad Titan was almost failed to win.
If only Thor had aimed his head or avoided wasting time discussing, half of the universe would have escaped death …
Knowing that the Russo Brothers' idea has always been to balance the roles of the main Avengers between episodes 3 and 4, it seems obvious that the Thunder God and Protector of Asgard will not be the main protagonist of the film.
That said, it is obvious that a crucial mission will nevertheless rest on his shoulders bodybuildées and some clues could help to guess the nature.
An army to counter that of Thanos
In short, Thor's quest would be to gather an army to stand up to Thanos forces.
Even if he remains in possession of the 6 stones of infinity and a gauntlet whose exact state is unknown because of the damage he suffered at the time of the snap of his finger, we must not forget that Thanos was already before a kind of lord of space capable of gathering a colossal military power.
Realistically, the Earth is probably no longer able to cope with such a power and, even if it were the case, the writers will be keen to avoid the same issues as in Avengers 3 and it seems obvious that most of the military confrontation will take place elsewhere than on our beautiful planet.
When Avengers 4 will begin, 5 years will have elapsed since the snap of the finger and it seems logical to think that Thor has spent most of this time to build the foundations of the new Asgard in Scandinavia.
The other possibility is that he drowned the sorrow of the defeat in the alcohol and that it is necessary to move it so that it gets back …
Your mission, if you accept it …
In both cases, Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff would come to ask for help to implement the plan defined by Tony and the others.
Thor will have to gather an army, an almost impossible mission since no one or almost in the galaxy would be mad enough to oppose Thanos, not to mention the fact that Asgard will only be a shadow of what it was. knowing that it remains a priori only a few hundred survivors, those who could escape the ship, led by Valkyrie before the arrival on board Thanos, knowing that even they had to suffer the effects of the Thanos gesture.
In such a context, how to bring together a sufficiently motivated or desperate troupe while preserving what remains of Asgard?
Thor could receive the unexpected help of Frigga, his mother, through a vision perhaps or a memory of words that she would have held many years ago. If it is a vision, it would come from Valhalla, the place where those who are chosen from Gods, beyond death, meet.
Unfortunately, the brave of this Asgardian paradise would be inaccessible to Thor, they could not return to the world and to ask them such a sacrifice would not be worthy of the son of Odin.
Thor returns to Hell
On the other hand, the case of all those who have ended in the Asgardian hell, Hel, is totally different. Obviously, Hel is the kingdom of Hela that was discovered in Thor Ragnarok and which was for me one of the great highlights of this amazing movie.
In appearance, at the end of Thor Ragnarok, the fate of Hela leaves little room for doubt since the gigantic blade of Surtur fell on her.
However, who, if not Hela could continue to exist beyond such a terrible blow? After all, she is a Goddess and her power was superior to Thor's, even after the revelation of a level of power hitherto unsuspected by the God of Thunder.
So it would be immortal and continue to reign over Hel, the world of the damned Asgard. Damned who would have failed in this hell for a lot of reasons, in a place that could still look like the illusion of a party, as in the visions of Thor in Age of Ultron.
Hela, she has it
Regarding the presence of Hela, know that Mark Ruffalo, Bruce Banner, spoke about his pleasure to have played with Cate Blanchett and one of the interviews of Cate Blanchett allowed to guess that she was then close to a statue that has already been seen in Thor's vision.
Finally, we know that a shoot for Avengers 4 took place at Durham Cathedral which had already been used as a backdrop to Thor's famous visions.
Thor would at least be accompanied by Valkyrie for his trip to hell, knowing that a serious dispute still exists between the warrior and Hela who had decimated by itself the whole order of the Valkyries.
According to some sources, the structure of Avengers 4 could resume some elements of the Return of the King, the third film of the Lord of the Rings. In this configuration, Thor's mission would be closer to Aragorn's mission when he enlists the army of the dead.
For the Asgardians stuck in Hel's realm, a desperate fight against Thanos' forces would be an unexpected opportunity to redeem himself for a place in Valhalla.
As to what could be gained by Hela, perhaps just a chance to punish Thanos who caused so much harm to Asgard, baduming she really cares about her people.
We do not know the place that will be given to Hela, but I fear that we should not expect much more than a cameo, even if I would appreciate I think to see her join the fight against Thanos.
And Loki in all this?
In order to get the possibility to get these damned warriors out of their hell, it would be interesting not to defeat Hela by the fight, but rather that there is no alternative but to convince her powerful she would be as a mistress in her field.
Thor might consider granting him an agreement, perhaps a return to new Asgard. Unless someone can deceive Hela, sell him a dupe agreement? But who would be capable of such deceit?
You guessed it, we suppose that Loki would also be a prisoner of this Hell. It remains to be seen whether it will be enough to release it for the character to come back. Personally, I would find that a little too easy, but it is interesting to know that this idea had already been considered in the past.
Indeed, this resurrection of Loki was originally supposed to intervene between the events of Thor: The Dark World and those of Thor: Ragnarok.
It must be admitted that questions remain around the terms chosen by Loki when he utters a few sentences on the ship before his desperate attempt to kill Thanos. A priori, it was mainly to prepare the ground for Thanos's speech after he killed Loki for good, however, we remember that Loki told Thanos that he will never be a God.
The proper of the Gods being to never really die, one can wonder if Loki will not come back, even if it takes a new form, as in the comics.
Anyway, a character's participation to allow Thor to leave with an army of the dead would be really nice, besides the fact that Tom Hiddleston should appear when some Avengers revisit the Battle of New York.
War on Titan or in space?
Once the army is reunited if it is the damned Asgard, it will obviously continue to fight, certainly in space.
There is little doubt that Thor will at one point find Rocket Raccoon, his new BFF. This duo will also find Hulk since Mark Ruffalo emphasized how much fun it was to bring together the biggest and the smallest of the characters on the screen.
To avoid an effect of déjà-vu, I think that this time Thor will not be the one who will arrive at the last moment to return the course of a desperate battle.
I wonder what forces Thanos can gather on his side, hoping maybe to see new creatures in addition to the outriders and possible Chitauri.
One could imagine that this time the battle of mbad is carried directly on Titan, the planet of origin of Thanos that it will perhaps be rebuilt meanwhile thanks to the power of the stones.
However, I think that a direct attack on Thanos' flagship would be a great deal and that it would be a nice revenge for Thor after the devastation brought by the Titan and the black order aboard the aircraft that brought the Asgardians on Earth.
Captain Marvel would also be well suited to send wood alongside Thor, Rocket, Hulk and Valkyrie.
Obviously, we know that the other Avengers will have a key role, including Cap, Natasha and Hawkeye that we saw very little in action, if any, in Infinity War.
Thor and the power of Stormbreaker
Regarding the current power of Thor with stormbreaker, it is certainly huge, but we must highlight three essential points.
The first is the effect of surprise. It's obvious that Thanos did not expect Thor to pose a threat after defeating him so easily.
The second, in line right, is that the Titan has not reacted in the right way to this direct attack. He simply swung power to repel stormbreaker, when he should have made more inventive use of one of the stones to move, freeze the weapon in time or change the laws of physics.
The third point is that Erika the King Smith most certainly planned a form of internal weakness to the gauntlet he designed, a way for another of his weapons to find a fault.
Apparently, we should also see Mjolnir in Avengers 4 and it is not only Thor who would handle it, but we will have the opportunity to return. The presence of Mjolnir can have two simple explanations.
The first is that Thor would have asked Eitri to reforge him because of the sentimental value he gives her.
The second is of course a journey in time or between parallel universes.
We can also wonder if the theme of parallel universes and the infinity of possibilities for the Avengers will allow us to glimpse even a moment Beta Ray Bill in the film. If so, I think it will not be more than a nice wink.
