Free embarked on a large-scale delisting operation. For a month, the operator Xavier Niel blocked more than 300,000 smartphones rented and not returned by customers. The owners of the blocked phones suddenly found themselves deprived of the user of their line. The cut took effect immediately, without notice and without appeal, explains the JDD which reported the information in its edition of November 25.
People affected by the blocking are not necessarily customers of Free. A large part of them subscribe to Bouygues Telecom, Orange or SFR. An online petition has already registered more than 1,200 signatures on a goal of 1,500 asking the operator to unlock their smartphones.
The signatories are unlikely to be heard. In the eyes of the law, Free is in his right. The operator, who offers the rental of its smartphones for a limited time, said these stolen models. After repeatedly threatening to block them if they were not returned, the operator finally joined the acts to the word.
Their new owners, who acquired the terminals on the second-hand market on platforms like Le Bon Coin or Ebay, feel they have been wrongfully wronged. They are invited to contact their dealer. On Facebook, some say they have managed to find common ground.
