The anger of the "yellow vests" also touches the radars. More than 130 have been totally destroyed since the beginning of the movement on 17 November. In all, at least 600 automatic cabins are currently out of service in France. A wave of degradations never seen before.
Among the most affected departments according to radars-auto.com, the Côtes-d'Armor dénombrent 24 degraded radars out of 2789%, followed by Haute-Loire with 67% (18 of 27) and of the Eure et Loir, with 56% (19 out of 34).
If the radars tarpaulin or covered with a yellow vest only require a simple intervention, the cleaning of a repainted radar costs 600 euros. A fixed radar destroyed costs 30,000 euros, an autonomous radar that can be moved: 60,000 euros.
In all, three million euros of damage for 600 radars vandalized on the 3,000 in France. That is 20% of the park. Not to mention the shortfall because the revenues are down 15% this year.
Why target radars?
Radars that are targeted because they represent state taxes, just like the tax centers blocked by the "yellow vests", which ask in particular where the money goes for the fines.
In 2017, 91.2% of the billion euros Radar recipes have been devoted to the fight against unsafe roads. The rest, 88 million euros, bail out the State's debt reduction. Recall that the degradation of the radars are punished with a penalty dimprisonment of 5 years and 7,500 euros fine.
