Skygazers take advantage of the 'full worm supermoon', the third and last supermoon of 2019.

Photographers from around the world have captured beautiful images of the supersize moon.

The full moon of March has been dubbed the "full worm moon" by Native Americans, because it occurs at a time of year when the soil is softening, and earthworm casts (worm manure) begin to reappear, according to the almanac of the Old Farmer.

Supermons occur when the moon's elliptical orbit brings it to the closest point to the Earth while the moon is full. The moon became a "super moon" on March 19, when it was 223,308 miles from Earth.

The phrase was invented in 1979, according to NASA. "When a full moon appears at the perigee [its closest point to Earth] it's slightly brighter and bigger than a normal full moon, and that's where a "super moon" is, says the space agency on its website.

The moon will fill at 21:43 ET on March 20, according to EarthSky. This year, the full moon is less than four hours after the March equinox, which marks the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere.
