Game of Thrones season 8 episode 5: Who died in the bloodiest episode so far?

Not good for King's Landing.

HBO

It goes without saying, but the huge Game of Thrones spoilers below.

The episode of Game of Thrones on Sunday night gave us the Battle of King's Landing, the second large-scale battle of the last season after the battle of Winterfell. We have good news and bad news for you. The good news is that the battle took place during the day. which means no lighting problems this time.

The bad news is that a lot of people are dead.

Our first major character was killed before Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow left Dragonstone, which was, in a way, a harbinger of things to come. In this song of fire and ice, it turns out that we should have been more worried about fire than ice.

Varied

In episode 4, The last of the StarksVarys told Tyrion Lannister his concerns about Daenerys' temperament. Jon is a more capable leader, he says, and Daenerys is less stable. They should replace it, he argued.

Episode 5 opens with a follow up of this thread. The band is back to Dragonstone after the unproductive confrontation of King's Landing with Cersei, who ended Zero War and left a dead Missandei, and Varys tries to tell Jon that he himself, not Daenerys, should sit on the iron throne.

Tyrion speaks to Daenerys about Varys betrayal. We find that Daenerys is in bad shape; bags under his eyes, red hair, unhealthy air. The times are bad. Daenerys says Jon and Tyrion are also at fault. Jon, against the orders of Daenerys, explained to Sansa his true identity, and Tyrion, having heard it from Sansa, informed her at Varys.

Fortunately for Tyrion, the punishment has not been applied uniformly. He had a stern conversation with ("next time you fail, this will be the last time you fail with me") while Varys was executed by fire. He was driven from his neighborhood by the Unsullied to the coast of Dragonstone, where he was sentenced to death. Varys tells Tyrion that he hopes to be wrong about Daenerys, and then Drogon will procure himself dracaries.

You'll miss the kingdom, Varys.

Euron Greyjoy

We spent a lot of time between the characters' deaths. Between Varys and Euron Greyjoy, however, there were many deaths of various soldiers. The last episode was to make you ask, "Will Daenerys be the crazy queen or will she be OK?" She did not turn out well.

Drogon destroyed the iron fleet and overpowered Lannister's army. The bells sounded the sweet sound of surrender. Daenerys had previously told Tyrion that she would not raze the city if the city surrendered early enough. The surrender happened quite early, but wow, Daenerys burned everything anyway.

As the city collapsed, Jaime Lannister was looking for Cersei. Along the way, he is confronted with Euron, whose fleet had just been Drogon & # 39; d. He asks Jaime if he wants to try to kill another king before they all die, but Jaime is not interested. Then, Euron mentioned that he had slept with Cersei and that it was immediately gone.

The two fought and Euron stabbed Jaime twice in the ribs. It looked like Kingslayer was a goner, but he had his second breath and impaled Euron against a rock.

Qyburn

Qyburn, the ex-master cursed and (now old) Queen's hand at Cersei was killed by his own creation.

As the defeat became obvious, Qyburn tried to put Cersei in the shelter. The Red Keep was in the process of collapsing. Their group, consisting of Cersei, Qyburn, Ser Gregor Clegane, and a group of guards, ran up and down a staircase as the walls and ceilings collapsed. It's about this time that they are facing Sandor Clegane.

He. Is. Clegane. Bowl. Time.

Sandor wants Gregor. Gregor wants Sandor. Gregor advances. Qyburn tries to hold him back, telling him to stay with the queen. Gregor catches him and, with barely a wrist shot, throws him repeatedly. Qyburn's head shatters against a wall and opens against jagged stairs.

Cersei left promptly as discreetly as possible.

Sandor Clegane, Gregor Clegane

Cleganebowl has finally arrived and it was glorious. With The Red Keep in flames, and with Gregor removing his helmet and armor to reveal what we can only describe as a Vader look, this battle was reminiscent of Obi-Wan vs. Anakin Skywalker in the third episode from Star Wars.

Gregor started with heights, but it was an equal match. The two swords tied together. Gregor was stronger but Sandor faster. Our sweet Hound seemed to have won when he stabbed The Mountain, but Gregor was unfazed.

Did we mention that Gregor is literally invincible?

Cleganebowl.

HBO

Gregor hits Sandor with his massive, genetically improved fists. He strangles his little brother against the wall. Sandor pulls out a dagger and makes holes in Gregor without success. Nothing hurts the Big Guy. Gregor raises Sandor and tries to slice his skull in the manner of Oberyn Martell. Before he can get there, Sandor passes his dagger in Gregor's right eye.

Gregor recoils and seems to be hurt. But then it stabilizes and begins to pull the dagger as if nothing had happened. The dog does not have it and attack his big brother through the wall. The two men fall several hundred feet into a Drogon fire pit.

Stay in power, Hound. Stay in power.

Jaime and Cersei

The Cléganes were not the only ones to die together.

Jaime manages to reach her twin sister at the time – at the time, to die together, anyway. Fans have theorized for years that Jaime would be the only one to kill Cerseibut nada. Love is love, apparently.

Jaime and Cersei rush into the dungeons where the skulls of dragons are kept, hoping to escape into one of the bays at the back of King & # 39; s Landing. Alas, the path is blocked by bricks and debris.

They kiss each other. Cersei says that she wants their child to live. Jaime says that they are everything that matters. The ceiling falls on them.

They shared a belly, now they share a grave.

What must be remembered from this episode, and especially from all the dead, is that Daenerys is now a crazy psychopath, aka The Mad Queen. Jon was wrong to follow her, Varys was right to doubt her and Arya would almost certainly try to kill her.

Next week is the week.
