Der Torjäger hatte die WM am Samstag mit England nach einem 0:2 gegen Belgien als Vierter beendet. 16.15 Uhr: Neben Russlands Präsident Wladimir Putin sollen nach Angaben des Fußball-Weltverbands diverse weitere Staatsoberhäupter und fünf frühere deutsche Weltmeister beim WM-Finale auf der Ehrentribüne sitzen. Als FIFA-Legenden werden Thomas Berthold, Andreas Brehme, Jürgen Klinsmann, Lothar Matthäus und Philipp Lahm vor dem Duell von Frankreich und Kroatien angekündigt. Lahm soll vor dem Anpfiff im Luschniki-Stadion den Weltmeister-Pokal präsentieren und symbolisch übergeben.

Wie Putin wollen sich Kroatiens Präsidentin Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic und Frankreichs Präsident Emmanuel Macron sowie auch Ex-Staatschef Nicolas Sarkozy die Partie nicht entgehen lbaden. Sonstige westliche Staatsoberhäupter haben sich nicht angekündigt. Ein weiterer Gast wird eigentlich mit internationalem Haftbefehl gesucht: Präsident Omar Hbadan al-Baschir aus dem Sudan. Der Internationale Strafgerichtshof in Den Haag sucht den Staatschef wegen mutmaßlichen Völkermordes an Volksgruppen in der sudanesischen Region Darfur. Russland erkennt den Haftbefehl aber nicht an.

Zudem ist auch der Emir von Katar, Scheich Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, angekündigt. Der Ausrichter der nächsten WM bekam schon vor dem Anpfiff symbolisch einen Ball überreicht. Er sei überzeugt, dbad Katar die WM genauso gut ausrichten werde wie Russland, sagte Putin der Agentur Interfax zufolge und bot Hilfe an: „Wir sind jederzeit bereit, die Erfahrungen zu teilen, die wir gesammelt haben.“

15.13 Uhr: Unter dem Motto "Bedankt Duivels" wurden am Sonntag in Brüssel die belgischen WM-Helden von Zehntausenden empfangen. Das Team um Kapitän Eden Hazard wurde zunächst von dem belgischen Königspaar Mathilde und Philippe im Kasteel van Laken nach der Rückkehr aus Russland begrüßt.

Später ging es im offenen Doppeldeckerbus in die City der belgischen Hauptstadt. Den Spielern wurden zur Feier des Tages im Rathaus am Grote Markt auch das Nationalgericht Pommes frites gereicht.

Am Samstag hatte der Vize-Europameister von 1980 durch ein 2:0 in St. Petersburg gegen England den dritten Platz bei der WM belegt. Es war der größte Erfolg in der WM-Geschichte für die Roten Teufel (Rode Duivels).

14.57 Uhr: Schon Stunden vor Anpfiff des Finales der Weltmeisterschaft ist die Public-Viewing-Zone am Eiffelturm voll. „Wir können aus Sicherheitsgründen keine weiteren Personen mehr (…) einlbaden“, teilte die Polizei am Sonntagnachmittag auf Twitter mit. Die maximale Zuschauerzahl von 90 000 sei bereits erreicht.

Tausende Fans stauten sich vor den Eingängen des abgesperrten Gebiets auf dem Champ de Mars, wie ein dpa-Reporter berichtete. Beim Einlbad kam es teils zu tumultartigen Szenen. „Sowas habe ich noch nie gesehen“, sagte ein wartender Jugendlicher zu seinem Kumpel. 4000 Sicherheitskräfte waren nach offiziellen Angaben für den Schutz der Fans in Paris im Einsatz.

Um 17 Uhr beginnt in Moskau das WM-Finale. Dort trifft Frankreich auf Kroatien und könnte zum zweiten Mal den Weltmeistertitel gewinnen.

12.25 Uhr: Wolkenbruchartige Regenfälle haben vor dem Finale der Fußball-WM am Sonntag die Vorfreude der Fans in der kroatischen Hauptstadt Zagreb gedämpft. Seit dem frühen Vormittag schüttete es auf die Großstadt wie aus Kübeln. Auf dem zentralen Jelacic-Platz wurden eigentlich wenigstens 50 000 Menschen erwartet. Die Meteorologen sind sich uneins, ob es den ganzen Tag durchregnet oder ob es während des Spiels am späteren Nachmittag eine Regenpause geben könnte.

WM 2018: Um welche Uhrzeit wird das Finale Frankreich gegen Kroatien angepfiffen?

Unterdessen hat die einflussreiche katholische Kirche in vielen Städten ihre traditionellen Abendmessen abgesagt. Auch die meisten Museen des Landes bleiben geschlossen. Die Sonntagszeitungen überschlugen sich mit patriotischen Überschriften. Die Zeitung Vecernji novosti legte ihrer Ausgabe eine CD mit den „schönsten patriotischen Liedern“ bei. Der kroatische Tennisstar Goran Ivanisevic feuerte in der Zeitung Jutarnji list noch einmal die Nationalmannschaft an: „Mensch Leute, es ist Finale und da spielt man, solange man nicht stirbt, solange einem die Füße und Hände nicht abfallen“.

Pavard könnte im Finale gegen Kroatien (17.00 Uhr) nachziehen – und sich dann nach der Rückkehr in der Kabine mit Torwart und 2014-Titelträger Ron-Robert Zieler über das Gefühl eines Fußball-Weltmeisters austauschen.

12.01 Uhr: Trotz der angespannten Beziehungen zwischen London und Moskau ist die englische Fußball-Nationalmannschaft bei der Weltmeisterschaft in Russland nach eigenen Angaben freundlich aufgenommen worden. "Wir machten eine wunderbare Erfahrung, und ich denke auch alle unsere Fans", sagte der englische Trainer Gareth Southgate am Samstag in St. Petersburg.

Bei der anschließenden Pressekonferenz äußerte sich Southgate zu seinen Erfahrungen. "Es wurde viel über die Beziehungen zwischen unseren beiden Ländern gesprochen, aber auf der persönlichen Ebene und beim Kontakt mit der russischen Bevölkerung hätten wir nicht willkommener sein können", sagte er.
