Xeon E-2100: 10 processors for entry-level workstations with up to 6 cores

Intel brings ten Xeon E-2100 processors for servers and workstations working. The processors for LG1151v2 are closely related to the Core i-8000 series.

Intel's entry-level Xeons now run under Xeon E-2100 – the number 3 after the E, which still carried their predecessor, disappears. The ten new four to six core processors, most of which are hyperthreaded in addition, are based on the known Coffee Lake architecture from the desktop and integrate into the LGA1151v2 version.

The flagship Xeon E-2186G clocks up to 4, 7 GHz (single-core turbo, 3.8 GHz base clock), has six more Hyper-Threading cores, an integrated graphics unit, two DDR4 memory channels ECC and a 95-Watt TDP. It costs $ 450, according to the list, while the cheapest model, the Xeon E-2124 for $ 193 changes hands. As usual, these are reduced wholesale prices before taxes. Contrary to expectations, there are no eight-core processors for workstations and entry-level servers among the ten currently announced models.

More Performance with Two More CPU Cores

Previously had a "0" for embedded graphics while 5-end models had to do without it, now is an added "G" support. The last digit of the product name indicates the number of cores in previously published models. By the end of May, Xeon E-2100 product names were publicly available in a Product Change Notification (PCN).

Compared to its direct predecessors, the Xeon E3-1200 v6 series, Intel promises 36% more performance. The values ​​marked Estimated are now at 40.9, while the comparison value of the old CPUs was 29.9 points. It should even reach 45% in the financial services sector's power measurements as well as modeling and 3D animation – with 50% more cores

New chipsets

Unlike the Coffee-Lake-S desktop models, the Xeon E 2000 runs on workstation motherboards with a C246 chipset. At the platform level, there are up to 40 PCI Express 3.0 channels available, but only 16 directly connected to the CPU – the rest must share the Choke Bottom DMI. All Xeon E-2100s drive up to 64 GB of RAM through its two-channel DDR4 memory and, unlike Core i5 and Core i7 processors, also support ECC error correction.

The Xeon E-2100 Must be Delivered Today Dell, HP and Lenovo are waiting for their first computers equipped with them.

Even when asked, Intel did not want to comment on the eight-core models, which were considered almost safe in the race. The 9000 series are also exchanged for the mainstream workstation as a supermodel.
