For Martin Kaymer is the 147th Open Golfers Championship – also known as the British Open – finished in Scottish Carnoustie already at halftime. The best golfer from Germany missed the cut after a low round of 75 with 146 hits as 80th. Bernhard Langer, 60, has however qualified for the two decisive rounds of the weekend of the third major tournament of the year.
Langer played a 71 round on the course par 71 and was ranked Day Two with a total of 144 hits on the 52nd rank. "I played the Masters and I did the cup, I'm here and I survived the cup and I think it's a success," said Langer, who is the oldest participant of the tournament. The 1985 and 1993 Masters champion had qualified for the 147th British Open last year by winning the Senior British Open in Wales.
"The concentration is gone and the body is tired"
Kaymer, 33, suffered a total of six defeats in the second round. Two birdies were not enough for the former world number one. "I feel good, I can do all the blows, but the concentration is gone and the body is tired," said Kaymer.
The leader after the second round is shared by two Americans Kevin Kisner and Zach Johnson each with 136 hits. Title Defender Jordan Spieth played a round of 67 and improved to eleventh place with 139 hits. Superstar Tiger Woods repeated his 71 of the day before. The 14-time California Grand Champion will start from position 29 on the third day of the British Open
As Kaymer, other professionals have prematurely abandoned the British Open: The World Number One, Dustin Johnson (148), also had to say goodbye to the tournament as the second world ranking Justin Thomas (146). The Spaniards Sergio Garcia (146) and Jon Rahm (147) are no longer there.
