AMD sells more and more processors, and therefore direct competitors, Intel, may lose some of their market. This is illustrated by the figures of the badysis company Mercury Research, the German distributor Mindfactory and the game distribution platform Valves Steam. Individual sources speak about 11%, 71% and 16% of market share, which holds AMD at least in the consumer segment.
Job market
According to Mercury Research, AMD's share was 7.5% in the last quarter and 9.1% in the second quarter of 2018. In the third quarter, however, it reached 10.6% – especially for laptops and a little less for desktops, the manufacturer was able to better position itself. According to Steam's hardware statistics, in October 2018, just under 16% of respondents used an AMD chip on Windows and just over 20% on Linux, which represents a slight increase.
On the other hand, according to the figures of Reddit users, at Mindfactory in October 2018, 71% of processors sold came from AMD – 61% in September and about 50% a few months earlier. The Ryzen 7 2700X (test) and the Ryzen 5 2600 / X (test), as well as the Ryzen 5 2400G type of APU (test), are particularly popular. As expected, Intel's top priority was the acquired Core i7-8700K (test).
Figures for the large segment of servers, in which Intel has significantly increased its sales and profits in recent years, never by Mercury Research, Mindfactory or Valve. According to his own badertions, AMD is posting a 5% percentage by the end of 2018, which would be a progress – until now, Intel held about 99% of the market.
