First, to rebadure: The image of "Momo" is not a real "person" – it's a curious sculpture that a Japanese company has exhibited in 2016 in a gallery. The sculpture has not only the deformed face, but also clawed feet resembling birds.
Especially in the Spanish-speaking world Momo seems to have found many "victims" – in addition to numerous reports of Iberian users, even the "Guardia Civil" on – a Spanish police unit. Users on their Twitter account advise not to register or contact the number with the scary photo.
The Watson Technology Portal has been the object of growing popularity among more specifically dedicated German users. The Japanese number, which is considered "original Momo", apparently since July 11th was no longer online in WhatsApp – making the authenticity of the reports, YouTube and Co. videos published after that date, but doubtful.
As is usual with such Internet phenomena, it is difficult to say what is really behind the story. It is quite possible that, according to the statue in Japan, someone wanted to afford a joke – which eventually also attracted some pigeons. However, if "Momo" unexpectedly appears in your mobile phone contacts and you call at night, it is probably best not to involve them in a conversation.
