Apparently, you can make and receive calls with your HomePod in the future. There are indications that a similar feature will be introduced in 2018. Until now, phone calls are only possible by detours with the smart speaker.
In the fifth beta developer of iOS 12, there are indications of a new call function for the speaker according to 9to5Mac. So, it should give the future in the HomePod application a phone icon.
