The winner of the Vendée Globe, 41, is safe and is now waiting inside the damaged boat. He has all his safety and emergency equipment with him and is about 320 nautical miles from Punta Delgada in Portugal.

A strong storm makes sailing difficult for other participants in the regatta. In total, 123 boats went to Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe.
