Ten years after the launch of the first app store for smartphones, 1.6 billion euros are expected to be generated in Germany this year with mobile applications for smartphones or tablets. This is almost a tripling from 2013, when the turnover was 547 million euros, as announced Wednesday the Bitkom Digital Association. The bulk of the app's sales will be achieved in 2018 with 1.2 billion euros on paid deals within the app, such as additional performance levels in vocabulary coaches, the Expansion of games or to unlock other additional features like the announced Bitkom. 283 million euros, or 18%, are attributable to advertising in the applications and 92 million or six percent to a direct purchase price. Shortly after the launch of the app store, Bitkom was still quite different: 98% of sales were made thanks to the purchase price.
There are more and more applications
The number of applications available has grown rapidly in recent years has almost doubled in less than three years. When the app store was launched ten years ago, about 500 applications were available, Bitkom announced. Meanwhile, the two largest Google app stores, Apple's Play Store and App Store, account for just under six million apps.
Of the 2.2 billion downloads in Germany, two-thirds should go to Android apps, for example the Google Play Store, and a good third on iOS apps, the Apple App Store.
