No more dust under the keys: In the new MacBook Pro for 2018, Apple has not only installed hardware for more performance, but also improved the keyboard. This is to eliminate an annoying problem that sometimes affects its predecessors.
The iFixit team broke down the MacBook Pro (2018) into its individual parts and found an interesting detail: the laptop keys are not only quieter than previous models, but probably less subject to errors caused by dust and dirt. This is made possible by a thin layer of silicone between the "butterfly" mechanism and the knob.
Corresponding patent already known
Apparently Apple even has a patent on this type of keyboard protection: Already in March 2018, according to The Verge, the corresponding document came to the public. Apple did not mention the use of such a technique when introducing the new MacBook Pro models; no doubt, the company did not want to stir up more dust compared to the problem. The fact that the keys are now quieter is apparently only a (positive) side effect.
Earlier this year, there were more reports of faulty keyboards in the MacBook and MacBook Pro – dust was identified as the main cause. Apple then announced in June to repair the devices with this problem for free. With the introduction of new models in July, this problem should now be eliminated, at least for the next generation.
