The 2019 Tour de France will suit mountaineers and will guide you on some of the mythical mountains of their long history.

As the organizers announced Thursday during the presentation of the course of the 106th Tour de France (July 6 to 28), a mountain finish on the legendary Col du Tourmalet in the Pyrenees was on the program. The tour begins with a sprint stage in Brussels, where the first two stages will take place (July 6th and 7th) and, after 3,460km, ends traditionally on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

The 23rd international start of the Great Loop and the fifth in Belgium is dedicated to the cycling legend Eddy Merckx – 50 years after its first success in 1969. With the start in Brussels, the tour operator ASO wishes to celebrate the first victory of the Tour on Merckx . On July 6th, the 106th Tour will begin with a stage of 192 km. The drivers leave the Grand Place to arrive at the Royal Palace of Laeken. The second stage is a 28 km team time trial, with a destination at the Atomium. On Monday, the field starts in Binche, then the border is crossed in France.

A total of five mountain finishes, including three more than 2,000 meters above sea level, are planned, plus a single individual time trial in Pau. The defending champion is Welsh Geraint Thomas.
