It is about better protection against fraudulent links in spam messages. This refers to web addresses that refer to a trusted website at first glance. But fraudsters are smart. By using special characters, they hardly change the URL and direct the user to a manipulated website when it is called. The Facebook subsidiary pushes the bar now. The application examines future links in incoming and outgoing messages. Suspicious links are then provided with a red tag. In addition, when opening the URL, an additional security alert is displayed.

WhatsApp Link Protection: Nur superficial

According to WABetaInfo, the function is not yet activated in beta. When validating the link, the application does not search data from WhatsApp servers to detect suspicious web addresses. Instead, the application only looks for unusual characters locally. There is certainly room for improvement. It is hoped that WhatsApp will bring the review quickly into the final version of its messenger and expand the feature to prevent further criminal activities in the future.
