Anyone who hopes to see Indiana Jones in search of legendary treasures or ancient relics will soon be gone. After the recent announcement that the fifth film Indiana Jones will not be released in 2020 as planned, fans now know how long the delay will be until a new story reaches the big screen. We are still waiting for the fifth movie to hit theaters, so when Indiana Jones 5 will it come out?
Despite the fact that the director of the franchise, Steven Spielberg, initially hoped that the production of the film would begin in the spring of 2019, the news that the filming would not start next year broke out last June. The film was originally scheduled to debut on July 10, 2020, but after changing its release schedule, Disney announced that the new film will be released on July 9, 2021. Well, to see the good side, Less than three years later , guys!
While Spielberg and franchise star Harrison Ford are still tied to the upcoming project, the delay in production is due to script changes. According to collider, Jonathan Kasdan, son of writer Raiders of the Lost Ark Lawrence Kasdan, replaced the original writer David Koepp on Indiana Jones 5 which means that a scenario for Indiana Jones 5 has not yet been solidified. Kasdan also wrote Solo so I guess it's the guy to whom to address for stories featuring Harrison Ford and all versions of his original characters.
The change of date of the film comes after Disney has rearranged and announced other dates of highly anticipated films. The first album of Mary Poppins Returns was moved from one week to December 19, 2018, while Maleficent 2 will be released in cinemas on May 29, 2020.
The film is now locked for release in 2021, this will mark 13 years since the last Indiana Jones movie in 2008. The franchise has always reflected the lags in real life, which means that, because Kingdom of the Skull Crystal was held in 1957, the new movie will probably be put in 1970. Do you think that Indy will sport a pair of groovy bell bottom or hit a disco?
Although Spielberg and Ford did not directly tackle the delay in filming, Ford never spoke positively about the prospect of a fifth film. In 2016, while Jimmy Kimmel Live! Ford was talking about coming back soon to another of his iconic characters, saying:
The opportunity to work again with Steven and the chance to revisit that character who brought pleasure to so many people – not to mention me. It's very fun to play this character. It's great to work with Steven. I am looking forward to it.
Aww . It may seem like a bit of a curmudgeon in its old age, but if Harrison Ford can be excited about it so long after the last film, so do we.
In 2016, Spielberg also confirmed that composer John Williams would return to mark the fifth film. The fans probably do not have to hold their breath for an unwanted return of Mutt Williams. The character introduced in Crystal Skull Kingdom and played by Shia LaBeouf was not very well received by fans, and LaBeouf did not expect to come back for sequels either . Oh, well, I'm sure we'll all get by.
Clearly, Ford is not as young as it was, but for Spielberg, the age of his main actor did not no effect on how the story of the fifth movie can play. Although his filming timeline has changed dramatically since he made these comments, Spielberg told New York Daily News in 2016:
As Harrison matures, his character … He remains in such a brilliant physical form that I do not believe in 2018, when I should direct the fifth episode … I think Harrison will be able to do a lot of what the script asks him to do.
Let's hope that the rest of the production Indiana Jones 5 is going well. Indiana Jones 5 will be in the cinema on Friday, July 9, 2021.
