An EC accountant refers to Gh ₵ 436,402 "missing" endowment funds

The Chief Accountant of the Electoral Commission (EC), M. Kwaku Owusu Agyei-Larbi, restituted the "missing" endowment funds that would have been entrusted to him as a guard

He returned a total of ₵ 436,402 Gh which he said he was given for custody and awaiting instructions for disbursement.

He explained that the money was in a safe in his office when he was asked to leave in July 2017 for investigations on the use of Endowment funds of EC staff by the Bureau of Economic and Organized Crime (EOCO)

. of the EC Presidency and its two deputies, it is also proposed that Mr Agyei-Larbi be required to pay to the Commission the sum of 360 000 GH ¢ which he admitted to having been detained in his office since 2016.

"If he is not able to pay said amount to the EC, we recommend repairs that he is accused of having stolen", the committee recommended of the CJ

In a petition dated July, 3 2018 to the presidency Mr. Agyei-Larbi stated that he was ready to quickly comply with the report of the Chief Justice Committee which depended on his immediate reinstatement after the EOCO investigations.

As a result of the petition, EOCO wrote to the] July, 9 2018 ordering the Commission to recall Mr. Agyei-Larbi and he has since refunded the money under his guard after the resumption of work on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

In a letter dated Thursday, July 12, 2018 to the presidency Jerry John K. Asiedu, counsel for Mr. Agyei-Larbi, said: "Following the developments Above, our client has recovered from the safe of his office a sum of GH ¢ 436.402 with the approval of the Director of Human Resources of the European Commission to pay the same sum to the IGF account of the GCB bank Attached and marked "C" is a copy of the memo approved by the Director of Human Resources.

"He paid the amount of GH ¢ 436, 402 in the designated IGF account of the Electoral Commission at GCB Bank on July 11 July, 2018. Attached and marked "D" is a copy of the GCB Bank Receipt as proof of payment in the account by our client.

Under the circumstances, it is clear that our client has fully complied with the recommendations of the report of the Chief Justice Committee that was referred to your high-office for implementation. Our client humbly requests that this be brought to the attention of the Attorney General and all other agencies necessary to implement the Committee's report. "
