WAEC publishes results of WASSCE 2018; retains the results of 26,434 candidates

Meanwhile the body of the exams says that it retains the full results of some 26,434 candidates pending the conclusion of investigations on various cases of irregularities found during and after the conduct of the interrogation

The Council in a declaration signed by Mrs. Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, chief of public affairs of the head of the Office National, warned that the results retained will be annulled if they are found guilty, or released if they are not.

The West African Examinations Council wishes to inform its many public that it published the provisional results of the candidates, who obtained the West African Senior School Certificate Exam for Candidates at School, 2018. In the meantime, the Commission has accepted the results online and any candidate wishing to do so can access their results on the Commission's website

Council alerts members of the public, especially candidates, to be wary of impostors, who promise to change the results of exams for pay. Applicants should note that all WAEC results are secure and can be authenticated. Persons with false results will be exposed

STATISTICS

In total, 316,999 candidates participated in the examination. This figure is 9.6% higher than the application of 289,207 in 2017. The 2018 figure was composed of 158,550 men (50.02%) and 158,449 women (49.98%). The review was conducted for 946 participating schools. A total of 1,378 (0.43%) registered candidates were absent from the examination

The candidates' performance with respect to the four core subjects is as follows:

• English 147,232 {46.79%) obtained A1-C6; 99,402 (31.60%) obtained D7-E8 while 68,002 (21.61%) had F9;

• Mathematics (Core): 120 519 ( 33%) earned A1-C6; 94,607 (30.09%) obtained D7-E8 while 99,275 (31.58%) had F9;

• Integrated Science: 158,691 (50.52%) Obtained A1-C6; 109,069 (34.72%) obtained D7-E8 while 46,367 (14.76%) had F9;

• Social Studies: 230,141 (73.27%) obtained A1-C6; 46,464 (14.79%) obtained D7-E8 while 37,494 (11.94%) had

Based on preliminary results, the performance at Al – C6 in social studies showed a marked improvement over that of 2017 (52.25% to 73.27%), while integrated science has registered a slight improvement (from 43.66% to 50.52%) . On the contrary, Mathematics (Core) posted a decline in performance from 2017 (42.73% to 38.33%). Similarly, there was a decline in performance in English Language (54.06% to 46.79%).

MALPRACTICE

The overall results of 26,434 applicants were held pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of irregularities found during and after the holding of the examination.
