Black Panther came out in February this year, is not it? And it took me until July to write a post … The reason? I spent all this time entertaining myself in the existence of the movie!
Okay, so I saw him twice at the movies, twice on flights, and now twice on DVD. You think that 6 times is enough ?! And I'm still prostrate before that! Without a doubt! I am a fan of Marvel; Please note that this is going to be a very biased post and an ode to Okoye and Nakia.
Best Marvel Movie?
Is Black Panther the best Marvel film? I thought Civil War was the best until Black Panther and then Infinity War came out. Now, I'm not sure. You movie fans know that we met the Black Panther for the first time in Civil War, is not it? You are not part of Johnny Just Comes who met T & C for the first time in Black Panther, innit ?!
Where do you start a post about something that gave you so much pleasure? As I said, I'm a fan, and Marvel's cinematic universe is terribly good. The superhero movie has been taken to a whole new level. From The Incredible Hulk to Avengers: Infinity War, each movie has added exponentially to our enjoyment at the movies. So it is with a sense of expectation that I went to see Black Panther. It must have been good, right? A superhero we had met once before, and who had exceeded expectations, a black cast, a black director, an action galore, beautiful black bald women (like me!), And Marvel! A surefire baby success!
From the Beginning
So what did the film really look like? Well, when an intriguing movie begins when the voiceover tells us a very brief story of Wakanda, and a character looks through a peephole and says, "These are these two chicks in search of Grace Jones … they are holding spears. "And the other character says," Open it. " The first character says, "Are you serious?" and the second character says, "They will not hit." A little more than three minutes in the film, we have our first view of the Dora Milaje, and I'm in love! You just know it's going to be a great movie. When you see the melee combat skills of the Dora Milaje you speak true!
This Accent
One of the first things that struck me about Black Panther was the so-called Wakanda accent. It's so diverse by the actors (and I say it with a deep-seated language) that we would expect the country to have at least 59 tribes. This is not the case. I must admit that it did not cause me any joy. From Nigerian to South African, to South African, to non-this-planet, Wakandan's accent seems to depend entirely on who is talking about it … and maybe how much they have been paid for the movie! Eish! There was another scene in Nigeria (remember the civil war?). Congratulations to Marvel, even though I still remember the scene "Off the coast of Africa" in Avengers: The Ultron era
Women!
And we see Okoye (Danai Gurira) for the first time we arrive in Nigeria. Love at first sight! For me, I mean! A woman who is general, brave, brave, fighter … and totally bald (like me!)! Oh baby! If we were married, we could "make" our bald heads together in front of a mirror!
Lupita Nyong's playing Nakia and she appears barely 9 minutes after the beginning of the film. She is bright! Did I say that I was in love with Okoye? I revered Nakia in this movie. What too short dance with the metal rings that she performs at the stunt challenge stage? Sexy beyond compare! The camera likes it and seems to follow it with adoration throughout the film. The camera? Oh, ok … I thought it was me! Could this be a determining factor for his career? Somehow, I think she has even more to come.
Men!
Erik Killmonger is a nasty villain. I liked his hairstyle; if only I had enough to imitate. His look, his voice, his attitude, everything is good. When he says, "Hey Auntie", he's pretty much threatened to know that he's a serious villain. Super casting and a beautiful performance. The only thing is that I'm afraid that Michael B. Jordan will be cataloged forever as an angry black man (Fruitvale Station, Creed, Fantastic Four). By the fact that his girlfriend was a beautiful woman,
But, speaking of attitude, Chadwick Boseman, T & C Challa himself, is a fair man. Think Obama multiplied by ten! Did you see him play James Brown in Get On Up? You should! His scene with his sister Shuri in his lab shows a lighter side of him, even if it reminds James Bond a bit too much, but it works. And I loved the joke of "sneakers"! He is perfectly royal as a king with authority, power, pbadion and ninja movements.
Africa
When T & # 39; Challa emerges from the rear of the aircraft hovering and we see people spread out all over the cliff, well, it's just awesome! Colors, fabrics, dances, drums! Sublime! But also ridiculous! This character with the dinner plate in his lower lip; seriously?? And Zuri (Forest Whitaker) probably has the most ridiculous Wakandan accent. It's so South African and so thick, it's comic. And the rituals too. Covering T & # 39; Challa in the sand, invoking and visiting the ancestors, taking away the powers of the Black Panthers with a herbal drink, all so African.
When Okoye announces, "Sister Nakia, my Prince, we are at home!", Got goosebumps! I want to go to Wakanda too, please Mom! I know it's a fictional country and all, but one of the best things about Black Panther is the culture that was created. There seems to be a lot of South African fabrics and patterns, but we also encounter the kente when T & # 39; Challa goes to the ancestral plain, and when he rushes into the Council Room at the end. And did I see baskets woven into a market scene? From our northern region? Ghana also gets a mention in the museum scene. Everything is very African but different enough to mean a whole new culture. Even CIA agent Ross, aka Coloniser, can wear a black African badou
Does the fictional portrayal of Wakandan culture in Black Panther compare to the Zamundan culture in Coming To America? Not that I compare T & # 39; Challa with Prince Akeem! I'm just wondering aloud.
Oh, and there is a little more West African culture when Mr. Baku says, "We will not have it oh!" Well, he apparently speaks Igbo ….
Action!
We even end up in Busan, South Korea, K-Pop and all! And Okoye and Nakia fight together! I almost died of pure joy! Even though they are both in bad wig. At least Okoye uses his wig as a weapon. The sight of this bald black woman (like me!) In a long red dress distributing chaos in a South Korean gambling hall via his spear is just … I miss the words. And Nakia in her long green dress (split on both sides) using her high heel as a weapon … I know, I already said it!
The action in Busan is great. The car chase is staged with brilliance, technique, movement and pure acceleration. Black Panther at the top of an empty car driven by Shuri in a laboratory in Wakanda; and he also does backflips and somersaults! He even turns the car on a set of wheels to take it around another car! Of the roof! When Okoye says, "Guns …. so primitive," you must remember that his spear is a sonic weapon. And she also rides on the roof of a car and launches her spear to make a car accident! Did you notice that Nakia was driving barefoot? Yeah, it was so bady.
As I said, it can become pretty ridiculous. M & # 39; Baku and his men bark? That one also from where? His line on Agent Ross's diet to his kids was pretty good, especially when he immediately followed her with "I'm kidding, we're vegetarians."
It's even a bit political , this movie, which talks about the "stupid barriers of the building". ", and even a refugee problem if Wakanda opens its borders.
When Nakia and Okoye hug each other after the second challenge, I thought I discovered the meaning of life, I swear my father! Okoye shedding tears as she says, "I am faithful to this throne, no matter who sits on it." And tell Nakia, "Then serve your country," and Nakia says, "No, I save my country." Oh baby And when Okoye says, "He lives !!", the pure joy on his face! When one of his Dora Milaje is killed, the cry that she utters comes directly from her soul. What a woman! Charge rhinoceros can not stop her! And she is bald, like me! I need to have black things tattooed on my head to be able to pretend to connectivity!
There has a mid-credit scene at the UN but all I can remember is Nakia in a yellow dress and Okoye in a black dress, and other people who say other things.
We have Okoye in Avengers: Infinity War, where she had the best line of the film, delivered in a perfect Nigerian accent. It was good to see Shuri briefly in Infinity War too. How long before seeing Nakia again? Lupita Nyong's o is bright at Black Panther! Oh, did I say ?? His kiss with T & # 39; Challa in the end was far from convincing, I'm happy to say it. I knew it! She probably wants me !!
Avengers: Infinity War is Marvel's best movie yet. But my movie heart and my movie soul are in Wakanda.
